What’s Happening with the The Cobblestone?
A Guide for the US Community
The Cobblestone pub in Dublin, Ireland is one of the most important places in Irish traditional music. It was initially saved from being eliminated by a development proposal to surround it with a hotel.
After historic protests and over 700 letters objected to this plan, Dublin’s Planning Board denied permission for the development in very strong terms, citing the City Development Plan’s robust protections for a place of such deep importance.
This is amazing news, but it has not put an end to the conflict represented by the redevelopment of the area surrounding the pub. The developer has appealed the decision.
BUT! There is a strong possibility that the appeal will also be denied if people continue to resist. And there is something anyone can do to help!
How can I help from outside of Ireland? Send a Letter!

Dublin’s Planning Board is soliciting letters from the public.
Anyone can send a letter, and it’s the most important way that we can all help!
They are definitely interested in hearing from us in the United States, and from folks around the world.
This is our chance to be heard, and the Planning Board is listening. Community support makes a massive difference!

Brilliant organizers in Dublin, Dublin is Dying are leading this campaign.
They have some wonderful resources for letter writers!The Shepherd School of Irish Music is helping folks in writing from outside of Ireland.
We’ve collaborated with some friends to create some additional resources to help YOU!We have letter templates, talking points, and full details on how to submit your letter.
We are also available to help via email, text, and video chat. Feel free to contact us!
We can arrange to cover the cost to submit a letter so it is FREE for you!
All costs for submitting letters received by the morning of January 25th (€50 each) will be covered by donations.
